When I first started college I thought that I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. That first semester I started coaching Field Hockey at my local High School from that day on I knew I was destined for a new career path. I sat down and thought about what I really wanted to do in life and what motivates me. I knew I loved athletics, helping children and giving back. That’s when I knew I wanted to peruse a career in Health and Physical Education.

Upon graduating from Rowan University I worked in several schools as a Physical Education teacher before I got to MetEast High School. Once I got there I knew I found the place I was suppose to be at. My experience at MetEast has been one I never would of dreamed of. Besides being a Health and Physical Education teacher for 9th and 12th grade I am also an advisor for 10th grade. This was a totally new experience for me. I had to step out of my comfort zone and do something I have never done before. As an advisor, I get to know the students inside and out. We have become like a little family. Besides knowing their strengths and weaknesses I know their fears, passions, interest and what motivates them. I have been fortunate to meet most of their families and really find out who my students are and where they come from. As we all know education is a two way street it is not only in the classroom but also continues at home. The open communication I have with my students parents allow us to work as a team so that these students reach their maximum potential. Seeing the growth that my students have made just over the course of the last 7 months makes me excited to know that I will continue to be on this journey with them until they graduate in two years.

The most rewarding part of working in Camden is the ability to interact with students of different backgrounds. All of the students have a different story. Whether it is a different culture, different ethnicity, different upbringing or different life experience each student is unique and brings something special to the table. Motivating and challenging each student is a personal goal I have for myself. Watching them set goals, strive to reach them and achieve them is the reason I wake up and come to work each morning with a smile on my face.
